Who is eligible for FSSAI registration?

FSSAI registration is required for Food Business Operators (FBOs) with an annual turnover of up to ₹12 lakh. This includes petty retailers dealing in food products and individuals engaged in the manufacturing or sale of food items.

The type of FSSAI license required depends on factors such as business type, turnover, and production capacity. There are three categories:

  • Basic License – For small businesses with an annual turnover of up to ₹12 lakh.
  • State License – For mid-sized businesses with an annual turnover between ₹12 lakh and ₹20 crore.
  • Central License – For larger businesses with an annual turnover exceeding ₹20 crore or those involved in import/export.

FSSAI Basic Registration: Required for small food businesses with an annual turnover below ₹12 lakhs.

FSSAI State License: Required for mid-sized food businesses operating within a single state with an annual turnover between ₹12 lakhs and ₹20 crores.

The documents required for FSSAI Basic Registration in Karnataka include:

  • PAN Card of the business or proprietor.
  • Photo ID and address proof issued by a government authority for directors/authorized signatories.
  • Proof of business premises ownership, such as a sale deed, rent agreement, or electricity bill.

A Special Economic Zone (SEZ) is a designated duty-free enclave that operates as a foreign territory for trade, taxation, and customs purposes

Under Rule 89(4) of the CGST Rules, the formula for calculating a GST refund on exports under bond or Letter of Undertaking (LUT) is:

Refund Amount = (Turnover of zero-rated supply of goods + Turnover of zero-rated supply of services) × Net ITC ÷ Adjusted Total Turnover

A GST refund can be claimed by:

  • Exporters of goods and services.
  • Businesses with excess input tax credit (ITC).
  • Tourists (in select countries).
  • Taxpayers who have overpaid GST.
